Innovative doctor and defender of the environment and traditions in Gabon
Dr. Yoan Michel MBOUSSOU born February 11, 1985 in Gabon is a citizen Committed to the preservation of the environment and the promotion of traditional Gabonese communities, the president of the NGO Gabon Terre d'Avenir stands out for his innovative approach to sustainable development. A specialist in medical analyzes and ocular imaging, he also runs the Ecolab firm, where he works to modernize access to medical care, particularly in remote areas of Gabon.
Under his leadership, the NGO Gabon Terre d'Avenir focuses its efforts on promoting sustainable forest management, essential for the ecological future of the country. He initiates projects aimed at strengthening local capacities, particularly those of traditional communities, through education and awareness of environmental issues. This holistic approach integrates respect for traditions and the active participation of communities in decisions affecting their environment.
In 2016, he was behind the first traditional Gabonese dance competition, a significant cultural initiative that led to the creation of the annual Gabon 9 Provinces event. This project illustrates its commitment to promote and modernize Gabonese culture, highlighting its potential in the socio-economic development of the country.
His work is not limited to the cultural aspect. As a strong advocate of traditional medicine, he introduced Tradishop, Gabon's first herbalist, and played a key role in the commercialization of iboga capsules, thereby integrating traditional knowledge into the contemporary health system.
The NGO also advocates for the creation of an experimental pilot zone in Akanda Park, envisaged as a space of customary law where practices and management of natural resources are aligned with traditions and the local vision of development. Ndossi Village, a tourist ecovillage located in this park, is a concrete example of this concept, offering unique experiences of Gabonese culture while promoting responsible and sustainable tourism.
All of these initiatives reflect a deep commitment to a Gabon where the balance between tradition, innovation, and socio-economic development is harmonized for a sustainable future, respectful of the environment and the cultural roots of the country.
